3 Foreign Leagues Which Have The Potential To Overtake IPL

3. Pakistan Super League

Pakistan Super League (PSL) is the first name on this list. PSL started in 2016 and has witnessed 8 seasons, including PSL 2023. Although PSL is not as financially rich as IPL, but it is one of the most watched leagues in the world. Like India, cricket has a huge fan base in Pakistan. Since Pakistan has a large population, PSL has a lot of fan base.

Moreover, since Pakistani players do not play in IPL, their fans can only watch their superstars play in PSL. Even in Indian media, some videos of PSL go viral on social media. If PSL manages to get as financially powerful as Indian Premier League, it might overtake IPL as the most popular T20 league in the world in the future.

2. The Hundred

The Hundred is another league on this list. The Hundred is a T20 league played in England. The tournament changed the dynamics of conventional cricket by introducing a different format and rules. 100 balls games and 5 deliveries in an over are some of such rules. Last year in its maiden season, The Hundred grabbed a lot of success and popularity.

Cricket is a very popular sport in England and since the country also has a large Indian population, cricket enjoys a wide fan base inside the country. Unlike Indian grounds, England stadium offers a lot of assistance to pace bowlers. This makes pace bowling an interesting aspect of The Hundred. Moreover, The Hundred is also a cash-rich league like Indian Premier League as it attracts a lot of sponsorships.

Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants are the six franchises that own teams in SA 20.

Many South African players enjoy massive popularity in India. Players like Dale Steyn, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Quinton de Kock, Imran Tahir, Anrich Nortje, and Kagiso Rabada are some of the popular former and active players in the Indian Premier League.
