Top 5 Highest Run Scorers In ODIs In 2019: The current year for ODI cricket wasn’t entirely all about brisk run-scoring, unlike the previous year. Contrary to the last year, when nothing like a World Cup was on the horizon, 2019 had that mega event in place. Hence, the bowlers put everything on the line and the conditions in that event as it progressed, became conducive to the bowlers.

In retrospect, the current year witnessed very calculated and level-headed run-scoring for the most part. Despite that, some batsmen stood out and produced runs in heaps when required. Some batsmen drove the team’s fortunes single-handedly yet didn’t result in victories while certain batsmen’s prolific run-scoring formed the cornerstone of their sides’ prosperity.

We take a look at the top 5 highest run scorers In ODIs In 2019:

Babar Azam – 1092 runs

Babar Azam has risen as the backbone of Pakistan’s batting line-up, irrespective of the format. He is yet to mark his territory in Test cricket; however, Babar is an established and proven performer in the One-day arena. The year 2019 has been an unforgettable one for the 25-year old.

In 20 ODIs, Babar has accumulated 1092 runs at a healthy average of 60.66. In the World Cup in England, the elegant right-hander scored 474 runs in eight games at a jaw-dropping average of 67.71. Presently, the 25-year old is at number three in ODI rankings, behind Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and would be looking forward to continuing his impressive run in the coming year.

Aaron Finch – 1141 runs

The Australian limited-overs captain is at number four for most runs in the year 2019 with 1141 runs at 51.86 in 23 matches. Aaron Finch started 2018 strongly against England in the ODI series, having scored a hundred in his first game. However, his returns kept depleting as it progressed. Finch endured a horror start to 2019 as well; however, he returned to form in the third ODI against India in March 2019, and his form kept escalating since then.

Soon after leading Australia to a series victory in India, the 33-year old piled up 453 runs in five games in the ODI series against Pakistan at an average of 112.75. The Victorian extended his sensational run in the World Cup in England, scoring 507 runs in ten games at 50.70. The veteran would be looking to stretch his splendid run-scoring form when the men in yellow tour India for the ODI series next year.

Shai Hope – 1345 runs

The classy right-handed batsman from the West Indies has the highest average among the top five run-getters in 2019 with 61.13 in 28 matches. Among the crashers and dashers in the West Indies’ batting line-up, Shai Hope has quietly emphasised his importance as the one who can keep the scoreboard ticking through his calculated run-scoring.

Through this way, the Barbados-born has kept the faltering side afloat on several occasions when the other batsmen have often threw their wickets away with reckless shots. In 28 games, Hope has amassed 1345 runs with four centuries to his name. The 26-year old finished 2019 with 222 runs in three-game ODI series against India and moved to number nine in the ODI rankings. The gloveman remains an integral figure to his side’s revival of fortunes in the upcoming year.

Virat Kohli – 1377 runs

Despite being on the top of the ODI rankings, Virat Kohli finishes 2019 as the second-highest run-scorer with 1377 runs at an average of 59.86 with five centuries. The Delhi batsman started the last ODI series of 2019 with scores of 4 and 0 in the first two games; however, he found his stride in the final game to lead India to a series victory against West Indies.

India had high expectations from Kohli in terms of runs as well as captaincy in the ICC Cricket World Cup. Nevertheless, the 31-year old failed in the knockout game and made, scoring 443 runs in nine games with a score of 82. Amid that, Virat Kohli remains among the top and the best 50-over batsmen of 2019 and would indeed scale more heights in the forthcoming year.

Rohit Sharma – 1490 runs

If Virat Kohli ends up second, it is almost a no-brainer that India’s limited-overs vice-captain, Rohit Sharma would be the top run-scorer in 50-over cricket in 2019. The Mumbai batsman has enjoyed an unforgettable 2019 in the One-day arena, having scored 1490 runs in 28 games at an average of 57.30. He scored seven centuries during the year; five of which came in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

Not many have managed to dislodge Rohit cheaply in the present year. His form seemed to dip just when the World Cup was in the horizon. However, he flourished when the main tournament came along and topped the run-scoring charts even in the World Cup in England with 648 runs. The 32-year old toppled Virat Kohli from 2018 in which he stood second.
