MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni celebrated his 37th birthday on Saturday.

One of the greatest wicketkeeper-batsman of all time, MS Dhoni turned 37 on Saturday.

Despite being in the twilight stage of his career, Dhoni is one of the fittest players not only in India but across the globe. He is still an integral part of India’s limited-overs side and will be vital for India’s chances if they harbour hopes of reclaiming the World Cup back next year.

Dhoni is one of the wittiest characters on the field. Even his teammates have said in different interviews that Dhoni’s excitement for small things is like a kid.

He is a very lively character, and it can be evident more from the stump mic compilations of Mahi. He had said strange and funny things from behind the wicket. Dhoni keeps on doing it more than often than not.

Here are five instances when Dhoni’s wit and humour made everyone laugh,

Asks Ravichandran Ashwin to bowl “the Tarak Mehta.”

Many people, especially outside the subcontinent, might be bewildered to understand the phrase. However, Dhoni used it for Ashiwn when he wanted to him to bowl the carrom ball. For an off-spinner, his stock delivery spins from left to right.

However, as Mahi wanted Ashwin to bowl the wrong-un, he asked him to the bowl the “Tarak Mehta”.

There is a television show which airs in Sub with the name “Tarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chasmah’. To keep the batsmen guessing of what delivery Ashwin will bowl, he used this phrase.

When Dhoni took a dig at Kevin Pietersen

Dhoni was representing the Rising Pune Supergiant in one of the group matches during the 2017 edition of the tournament.

Manoj Tiwary who was also a member of the RPS squad was on the mic when Pune was fielding. Kevin Pietersen was at the commentary box. During a chat with Tiwary, he asked him to tell Dhoni that, “Pietersen is saying he is a better golfer than you.”

When Tiwary conveyed the message to Dhoni, he replied in the wittiest of manners. “But you are still my first Test wicket.”

Dhoni did get the wicket of Pietersen in a Test. However, the decision got overturned when Decision Review System came in to effect.

Dhoni fires a fake throw against Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is one of the pranksters in the Indian team. He never leaves any opportunity to pull the leg of other cricketers. This time Dhoni decided to give him back.

In the just-concluded season of IPL, Chennai Super Kings were up against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in one of the group games.

Shikhar Dhawan was batting, and he tapped a delivery to the mid-wicket region. Dhoni came running to field the ball and had a false shy at Jaddu. He was shocked for a moment. Later, he laughed off the incident. Even the crowd got involved.

Dhoni mimicks Manoj Tiwary

Dhoni and Manoj have played together quite a few times. They were together in the Rising Pune Supergiant squad and also played a few occasions in the national team.

It was the 2010 tour of Sri Lanka when Dhoni gave everyone a hilarious account of himself when he mimicked Manoj Tiwary while walking towards him to celebrate a wicket.

Just when the giant screen flashed out, Dhoni comically walked towards Manoj. Ramiz Raja who was in the commentary box enquired who was Dhoni mimicking.

When Dhoni engaged in friendly banter with a reporter

India had just got eliminated from the 2016 World Twenty20 after losing the semi-final against the Windies.

Dhoni who was attending a press conference was asked whether he will continue till the 2019 World Cup. He called up the reporter and wrapped an arm around his neck and asked him some questions.

When he said he feels that he is still fit, Dhoni replied by saying you have then answered your question brother. It was one such hilarious moment when Dhoni even fooled the reporter.
