1. Cheteshwar Pujara – Kolkata Knight Riders

Cheteshwar Pujara hasn’t really had a significant impact in the truncated version of the game. His boundary haemorrhage in the powerplay overs has always backfired him. However, he has proved that to be a real case for himself as a viable batsman for India in the red-ball cricket.

Pujara has plied his trade for Kolkata Knight Riders in the initial three seasons of the Indian Premier League. His short-lived performances led to his ouster from the franchise. In the 2011 players’ auction, he was roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

He had then started for RCB before injuring his knee in a game against Kochi Tuskers Kerala. The injury kept him out of cricketing action for nearly a year before he had returned to domestic cricket at the end of 2011.

The wrist-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was first roped in by Mumbai Indians in the 2008 IPL auction. But he spiced it up in just one IPL game for Mumbai Indians across three editions but turned up in all games in the 2011 Champions League Twenty20.

He shot to prominence when he profited to the tune of 2 for 9 in 3 overs in the Final against Royal Challengers Bangalore, helping his team defend the total of 139 and lift the title. Then he had moved on from Mumbai to join RCB army. At the 2014 IPL players auction, he was purchased by the Royal Challengers for his base price of ₹10 lakh.

It is indeed hard to imagine another wicketkeeper-batsman in Chennai Super Kings besides Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Wriddhiman Saha was roped in by CSK as a reserve wicketkeeper for MS Dhoni in IPL 2011 and went on to feature for the franchise in 2012 and 2013 respectively. Before that, he represented Kolkata Kolkata Knight Riders in the first three seasons.

In 2014 IPL Auction, Saha penned his deal with Kings XI Punjab and had a memorable stint with the franchise for four years. He was purchased by the Sunrisers Hyderabad to play for the 2019 IPL.

Shikhar Dhawan who played for Delhi Daredevils was traded to the Mumbai Indians in exchange for Ashish Nehra. Dhawan hardly had a sniff while playing for Mumbai Indians, having represented the team in the second and third season of the IPL.

He was then made the captain of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team ahead of the start of the 2013 Champions League Twenty20 tournament. His inability to steer his team to wins forced the franchise to replace him with Darren Sammy as the captain of SRH in the 2014 Indian Premier League.

The flamboyant opening batsman was retained by the same franchise for the 2017 IPL edition. In 2018 mega IPL auction, he was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹ 5.2 crores using their RTM (right to match) card. After having a good stint with SRH, he parted ways with the Orange army only to move to Delhi Capitals for the 2019 season.

5. Ravindra Jadeja – Kochi Tuskers Kerala

Well, this is interesting! How many of us know that Ravindra Jadeja had once featured for Kochi Tuskers Kerala? The now-defunct IPL franchise had a star all-rounder in their arsenal and they hardly posed a threat to the opposition teams.

Kochi Tuskers were then terminated from the lucrative tournament in September 2011, and in the following auction, Jadeja was bought by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 9.8 crore and was the most expensive player of that player auction.
