5. K Srikar Bharat:

Perhaps, a less known name in the market but always on the table for the selection panel. He has been grooming under various coaches to show his skills straightaway whenever he gets the opportunity. Bharat can open the innings and a very good wicket-keeper for Andhra over the years.

Making his First-class debut at the age of 19 against Kerala, Bharat has been one of the consistent run-getters for Andhra in the last few years. He made rapid strides both as a keeper and as a batsman at the domestic level. 2014/15 was Bharat’s breakthrough season where he scored 758 runs in Ranji at a healthy average of 54.14. He followed it up in the next seasons as well.

Currently, he is the regular wicketkeeper-batsman for India-A sides. Most probably, he would receive the call in the near future.

4. Dinesh Karthik:

Yeah, could be the perfect choice for the selectors. He is tailor-made batsman to score runs quickly for the team. With a couple of T20I world cups on its way and the Test championship, which require experience, Dinesh Karthik can perfectly fit into the role for India.

Dinesh Karthik has been hanging around in Indian Cricketing circles since the year 2004. That he made his international debut before MS Dhoni but could never cement his position in the squad speaks volumes about the latter’s dominance as a keeper-batsman.

One thing which could be on Karthik’s favour is the fact that he is technically sound against quality bowling lineups.  All ina ll, an interesting few months ahead for the Tamil Nadu batsman.

3. Ishan Kishan:

This lad can do the trick for India if given opportunity. He already got skills to perform under pressure, as he led teams on numerous occasions and also played well in IPL. Ishan Kishan was bought by Mumbai Indians for a whopping Rs 5.5 crore. With his big-hitting abilities, he was given the responsibility to counter-attack in pressure situations.

Kishan is currently plying his trade for India A in the ongoing series against South Africa A at home and took the opposition bowlers by a storm with a sensational half-century in the second unofficial ODI.

Ishan Kishan, who captains Jharkhand in the domestic circuit, has been touted to have a great future in international cricket and is seen as one of the potential replacements of veteran Dhoni. Well, his chance might be on its way with Pant failing to perform.

2. Sanju Samson:

One of the top-class cricketer and a too good player to be out of the team. Sanju Samson came to limelight with his stellar performances in the Indian Premier League for Rajasthan Royals in 2013. The 23-year old remains the youngest batsman to score 1000 runs in the IPL. Moreover, he is the youngest cricketer to captain a Ranji trophy side with Kerala.

In IPL 2018, Samson scored 441 runs in 15 matches at an average of 31.5 including two match-winning knocks for RR. He has been rated highly by his mentor Rahul Dravid and would look to continue his fine form.

The on-off career of Sanju Samson took another beating when he failed to make it into the India-A squad for the England tour after a poor show in the yo-yo test. He is in the frame of things but hoping for a bit of luck on his way.

1. Wriddhiman Saha:

He is so close to taking his position back in the Test format of the game. Highly lauded by the experts and critics for his amazing acrobats and skills with the gloves, Saha was probably the next man to take the role. He already delivered the goods but failed to make into the playing XI after being injured.

In December 2014 when MS Dhoni announced a surprise Test retirement during the Australian tour, Saha was handed his role and has been the constant behind the wickets for the Indian Test team ever since. He has played some valuable knocks in his young 32-Test career till now and continues to be India’s first-choice keeper.

Unfortunately, 2018 has been an injury-laden year for him. However, after surgery, he made a fine comeback. Now, it is interesting to see whether the Indian team management will include him in the playing XI or not for the upcoming South Africa series.
