Rishabh Pant’s miserable form with the bat continued as he failed yet again in the second T20I against South Africa. The young wicketkeeper-batsman has been tipped to be the next big thing in Indian cricket. He has already scored Test centuries in England and Australia to prove his Test credentials.

However, it is his form in limited-overs cricket that has left a lot to be desired. While Pant is one of the most consistent performers in the Indian Premier League from the last couple of years, he has failed to replicate that form for India. On the tour of West Indies, he failed to make much of an impression in the ODIs and the T20Is. What made things tough for him was the poor shots he played to get out.

Things did not improve for Pant at home either as he managed just four against the Proteas. He was slammed by the fans on social media once again for not making the chances count. And as Rishabh Pant struggles in the limited-overs format, former India opener Aakash Chopra has delivered an advice to the team-management.

Chopra believes that a change in the batting order could make things better. The ex-cricketer-turned-commentator took to Twitter to state that Rishabh Pant should bat at number five while Shreyas Iyer should be promoted at number four, writing:

“Would’ve liked Iyer ahead of Pant. Batting at 4 suits Iyer more. Batting at 5 might work better for Pant #IndvSA”

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant’s latest failure did not hurt India much as they beat South Africa by seven wickets. With the win, India took an unassailable lead in the three-match series. After restricting the Proteas to 149 for 5, India rode on skipper Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 72 to chase down the total with utmost ease.
