Aakash Chopra, Yashasvi Jaiswal, MS Dhoni, IPL, IPL 2020

Former India opener Aakash Chopra, on Friday, lashed out at a troll after the latter’s distasteful tweet on Yashasvi Jaiswal. Playing his first-ever IPL season, the highly-rated youngster has struggled to deliver as per his reputation so far.

Yashasvi Jaiswal came to UAE as one of the youngsters to look out for in IPL 2020. The 18-year old was the Player of the Tournament at the 2020 U19 World Cup, in which he scored 400 runs at an average of 133, including four fifties and a century against Pakistan in the semifinal.

Prior to that, he had impressed for the Mumbai senior team. In the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy, the left-handed batsman had scored three centuries out of which one was a double. However, he has not been able to deliver in the same manner in the ongoing tournament.

He started the tournament with a 6-run knock against Chennai Super Kings before being dropped. The Royals recalled him for the clash against Mumbai Indians earlier this week but the southpaw struggled again as he was out for a duck. And on Friday, the story remained the same against Delhi Capitals.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 34 but played 36 balls for the same and it gave the trolls another opportunity to take shots at the youngster. One such troll was noticed by Aakash Chopra and he was quick to react to it.

The Twitter handle named ‘tuk tuk academy’ posted a morphed image of MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav welcoming Yashasvi Jaiswal to the academy for his slow knock. It should be noted that Dhoni and Jadhav are also facing the heat in recent times for their slow knocks in the ongoing IPL.

Aakash Chopra, nonetheless, criticised the tweet and urged others to ‘leave the kid alone’, writing:

“Have a heart. That’s all I’ll tell you. Leave the kid along please. I am sure that senior players can take a joke but it’s unfair to expect same maturity from a 19yo”
