Three dimension or rather just dimension has become one of the most popular term in Indian cricketing circle nowadays. The term gained popularity after chief selector MSK Prasad used it to explain Ambati Rayudu’s surprising omission from India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup.  Rayudu was looking set to make it to the World Cup after being recalled to the ODI team during the last year’s Asia Cup. He had hit the ground running and sealed his spot at number four.

His performance in Australia and New Zealand was also decent. Rayudu played a match-winning inning of 90 on a tricky pitch of Wellington in the New Zealand series.  His matured innings got praised by skipper Virat Kohli who hinted that the headache for number four is finally over. It was assumed that Ambati Rayudu could be flying to England the coming summer.

However, his performance against Australia at home perhaps made the selectors drop him from the squad. Rayudu managed to score just 33 runs in the three matches he played before being dropped. His poor form coincided with the impressive form of Vijay Shankar and the latter made it to the World Cup.

Explaining the selection, chief selector MSK Prasad had cited Shankar’s “three-dimensional qualities”. Rayudu had then taken a dig at Prasad’s explanation by tweeting that he plans to buy 3D glasses to watch the World Cup.

Ever since then, the term ‘three-dimensional’ has become a famous one.  And on Friday, former India opener Aakash Chopra used it once again. Chopra used the term when Rayudu donned the wicketkeeping gloves for Chennai Super Kings on Friday. With MS Dhoni out of the game due to fever, Ambati Rayudu stood behind the stumps against Mumbai Indians. Chopra was then quick to post a cheeky tweet as he wrote:

Meanwhile, Super Kings lost the game by 46 runs. Chasing 155, the defending champions were all out for just 109 to suffer their first home defeat this season.
