Former India Test opener, Aakash Chopra has criticized Prithvi Shaw for not altering his approach even after getting out in similar fashion. Prithvi Shaw, on Tuesday, scored seven runs against Kings XI Punjab, as Delhi could manage only 164 which was chased down by Punjab with an over to spare.

After a couple of fifties against Chennai and Kolkata in the initial phase of the tournament, Prithvi Shaw’s form has slumped as the opener has registered four single-digit scores – 4,0,0,7 – in his last four innings.

There is a problem with Prithvi Shaw: Aakash Chopra

While praising Shikhar Dhawan for his hundred against Kings XI Punjab, Aakash Chopra indicated an issue with Dhawan’s partner, Prithvi Shaw. Chopra says even after not scoring runs.

Shaw has not changed his style of play.  Shaw is an aggressive batsman and likes to play the attacking shots, but Chopra and Sunil Gavaskar, who was with him in the commentary box believe that Shaw should play a bit along the ground as Shikhar Dhawan at the other end is playing the boundary strokes.

“Shikhar Dhawan played very well. There is a problem with Prithvi Shaw that he is not changing his style of play even after having not scored runs.”, Aakash Chopra said.

“Sunil Gavaskar was angry during commentary and I was also a little upset, that if you not scored runs in the previous matches, then play a little bit along the ground as your partner was anyway hitting”, he added.

The cricketer turned commentator heaped praises for Shikhar Dhawan, who became the first player in the history of IPL to score back-to-back hundreds. Aakash Chopra said that the left-hander has been absolutely outstanding, but also lamented on the issue of other Delhi batters not contributing much in their loss against Punjab.

“Because he is not batting slowly, he is going at a super-fast speed. He has struck two consecutive tons, which no other player has done to date in the IPL.

“He has been absolutely outstanding, 207 not out and counting. Because a century in the last match and a century in this match, unbeaten in the last match and unbeaten here as well.” he said.

“But if a team scores a total of 165 runs and you have made 106 out of that, then what were the rest of them doing? The others didn’t contribute and it is not that you have played 75 balls”, Aakash Chopra added.

Even after the loss on Tuesday, the Capitals sit at the top of the points table with 14 points. They will next face Kolkata Knight Riders in an afternoon game on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
