Jasprit Bumrah is widely regarded as the best death bowler in the world and rightly so. At a time when most of the pacers in the world have struggled to contain the batsmen especially in death overs, the Indian pace spearhead has been class apart. In his short international career that started in 2016, Jasprit Bumrah has left his contemporaries well behind in terms of death bowling.

His unorthodox style, deadly yorkers and other variations have made it tough for the batsmen to read him. And Australia’s limited-overs skipper Aaron Finch’s latest comment pretty much proves just how good Jasprit Bumrah has been. Speaking ahead of the first T20I against Sri Lanka, Finch said that Bumrah has sent the benchmark for death bowling in the world.

The Australia star mentioned Bumrah in order to compare his compatriot Mitchell Starc who has been very inconsistent in recent times. Finch said Starc is very close to Bumrah in terms of skills.

“Starcy’s proven himself in both the shorter formats of the game that he’s as good as anyone in the world,” Finch said. “Probably Bumrah’s the benchmark in terms of death bowling in the world, but Starcy’s very close to him, and it’s about getting guys enough experience at international level, but also having the skills to do it.

He further praised Kane Richardson for his performances in recent times especially on the tour of India and Pakistan earlier this year. The skipper also rued the absence of Andrew Tye who will miss the Sri Lanka series due to an injury.

“I think we’re really lucky we’ve got Kane Richardson who did a great job for us in the one dayers, through India, Dubai and then when he had his opportunity in the World Cup. AJ’s a quality bowler and it’s unfortunate we’re not going to have him most likely for these two series. It’s about guys around the country as well, putting a lot of pressure on the players that are in the squad at the moment to put their hand up and make themselves known through one-day performances and Big Bash,” said Finch.
