Adam Gilchrist will go down in history as one of the best if not the best wicketkeeper-batsman the game has ever seen.  He was one of the pillars of the all-conquering Australian team of early 2000s. He is being widely recognised as the one who revolutionized the role of wicketkeeper-batsman. During his playing career, he was one of the most devastating batsmen in the world.

His performance in Tests was equally impressive. He brought a limited-overs approach to Tests. Adam Gilchrist is the first man to launch 100 sixes in Tests and also has the most centuries by a wicketkeeper-batsman. After Gilchrist, the likes of MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara also made their mark in the game with their twin roles of wicketkeeper and batsman.

Best in the world right now:

Adam Gilchrist definitely knows a thing or two about being the best in the world. And the former Australia cricketer believes that the current best wicketkeeper-batsman in the world is New Zealand’s BJ Watling. Adam Gilchrist snubbed the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Quinton de Kock and Jos Buttler as he called Watling the best because of his consistency.

“BJ Watling, best keeper-batsman in the world at the moment. Particularly in this format (Test). He just looks so hungry. He’s the most successful statistically for New Zealand, ever and they have had a line of some terrific wicketkeepers,” Adam Gilchrist told cricket.com.au.

“He’s fresh off a double ton. I think he’s scored 8 or 9 Test hundreds and averages 40. So, show me another certainly statistically better keeper-batsman in the world that’s done it for a consistent amount of time. I am not sure there is,” he added.

He further said that Paine is on par with the best as far as wicketkeeping is concerned but has not reached that level with the bat. He also called Quinton de Kock a great entertainer before stating that the South Africa wicketkeeper has not reached the level of consistency that Watling has shown.
