Shahid Afridi rolled back the yesteryears, as he ripped through the Maratha Arabians batting line-up during the 2nd match of the inaugural T10 League. It was courtesy his exceptional hat-trick and a good batting show by Fakhar Zaman and Liam Dawson, the Pakhtoons registered a 26-run victory to set their campaign off to a winning start.

He also became the first man in the history of T10 cricket to bag a hat-trick. Though he hasn’t been given due credit for his bowling, his limited-overs records suggest he was one of their frontline bowlers. Afridi dismissed Rillie Rossouw, Dwayne Bravo and Virender Sehwag in successive deliveries to bag his maiden T10 hat-trick.

The delivery which got rid of Rossouw wasn’t exceptional, but the next two deliveries were good enough, and both the batsmen got bamboozled. Rossouw failed to time a short of length delivery of Afridi, as the southpaw was holed out in the deep. Bravo failed to read the quicker pone from the former all-rounder and was trapped right in front.

Arabian’s skipper who won the toss and elected to field first was the next man in. It was yet another wrong-un which went on with the arm and struck him adjacent to the stumps. After moments of hesitation, the on-field umpire ruled it in favour of the bowling team. It was the combined effort which eventually ensured a 26 runs victory for Pakhtoons.

Batting first the Pakhtoons posted 122 runs on the board in their allotted ten overs. The Maratha Arabians weren’t good enough for the night, and finished their ten overs for 96/7. It is definitely a big achievement for Afridi especially after retiring from international cricket. His exceptional piece of bowling was just a reminder that the flamboyant all-rounder isn’t finished yet.

Twitterati hailed the former skipper on his achievement. Here are some of the best congratulatory tweets.
