BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has said Ahmedabad would host the day-night pink ball Test when India host England at the start of 2021. England are scheduled to visit India from January to March for a blockbuster five-match Test series as well as limited-overs series.
Owing to a surge in COVID-19 case load in India in the recent past, there had been speculations that the series could be shifted to the UAE, where the IPL 2020 is currently underway. The BCCI, however, is determined to host the series in India and has already started planning for the same.
“Ahmedabad will hold the day-night Test,” Sourav Ganguly was quoted as saying by PTI.
Apart from Ahmedabad, Dharamsala and Kolkata are the other likely venues for the series although the BCCI is yet to take a final call. Sourav Ganguly stated that the board has made some tentative plans and nothing final has been decided so far.
“We have made some tentative plans but nothing has been decided as of now. We still have four months’ time,” said the former India skipper.
The batting legend further said BCCI’s priority at the moment is the upcoming Australia tour. The selectors are set to announce the team for the tour in a few days. The teams will leave for Australia soon after the ongoing IPL ends on November 10. The players will leave Australia directly from UAE. Sourav Ganguly also said that switching to Tests immediately after the IPL won’t be a problem for the players.
“Before England, we have Australia series coming up. There will be team selection happening in a few days,” he said.
“They are all quality players, they will be fine,” he added.
