The vice-captain in Test cricket Ajinkya Rahane has been one of the underrated cricketers in the ODI and T20I formats of the game. He got the required talent and numbers under his kitty to press his case for the selection, but, unfortunately, always ended up on the wrong side of things. Meanwhile, he asks for a chance in the limited overs team.

The flamboyant batsman scored brilliantly against Windies side and registered decent knocks against Australia at home. However, the return of Shikhar Dhawan saw Rahane being pushed to middle-order in South Africa. Surprisingly, they never considered him again.

“I am aggressive as a batsman but by nature, I am an introvert. I don’t like to talk too much, I Prefer to let my bat speak but sometimes it’s important to speak the truth. Have believed the team always comes first and I have always respected the team management and the selectors’ decision and I will continue to do that,” Ajinkya Rahane said.

Everyone deserves chances – Ajinkya Rahane

Further, the right-handed batsman quoted that a player needs chances to prove his mettle for the team. For the same, he believes that the player should be given a consistent run in the side, which would help them to settle in the side.

“But in the end, it is important that the effort that I am putting in is acknowledged. As a player, I feel everyone needs consistent chances to do well for the team,” Rahane told The Hindu.

I always felt that country and team comes first:

Rahane also quoted that he always kept the country and the team at first rather than his own achievements. He feels that the player should be considered when he puts his team first. However, he believes that the Indian selectors are the best judges.

“I have always thought the country and the team comes first. Even when I played for Mumbai I started off an as an opener, but when the team wanted me to bat at No. 3, I agreed and accepted the challenge. So I don’t think I will ever ask for anything except the team’s cause. Having said that, though, the point that I am trying to make here is that if as a player I have always been committed to the team’s cause, then I deserve chances more consistently. That’s the least I am asking for,” Rahane said.

I harbour dreams of playing ICC World Cup 2019:

Ajinkya Rahane expressed that he is dreaming to play in the upcoming grand event. He also believes that things would change and his name might come into the scheme of things for the upcoming ICC world cup.

“Things can change anytime. And like every player even I harbour dreams of playing in the World Cup. So yeah, I am hopeful,” he said.

Well, it would be interesting to see whether Indian selectors would consider him or not. Most probably, his performance in Indian Premier League 2019 would come into consideration.
