Mumbai Indians have dominated IPL as no other franchise has thus far. Mumbai Indians clinched their fifth title in the 2020 edition of IPL as they beat the Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Dubai. It was a side that ran through all of their opponents and had a side prepared for all the unforeseen circumstances. Owner Akash Ambani hailed the five-time champions’ gameplay this year as the best they have played in 13 years.

By beating the Delhi Capitals to clinch their fifth title, Mumbai Indians became only the second IPL team after Chennai Super Kings to defend their crown. Rohit Sharma’s men started as the defending champions, having won it in 2019 by defeating the Super Kings. It was Rohit Sharma’s fifth title victory as captain and second as a player. The franchise’s fortunes turned upside down for the better since Rohit took over the captaincy in 2013.

According to Akash Ambani, their record in terms of wins and losses were the same as in 2019; however, was impressed by Mumbai Indians’ quality of cricket. Akash also reckoned that the plans executed by them were very much in line to how they wanted it to be. Overall, he feels it is the best they have fared since the inception.

Our record in terms of wins and losses are the same as last year. But in terms of the quality of cricket played this season was incredible. From what our plan for the season was and what we managed to execute on the field, I’d say we were in the 95 to 98 % range. This is the best we’ve played in 13 years,” Ambani told Times of India.

Following Mumbai’s win, former English skipper Michael Vaughan lauded the team as the best T20 side in the world and could even lift the T20 World Cup. Akash stated it was the best comment he saw the whole day and was all praises for the BCCI for organizing IPL 2020 and making it a success amid plenty of uncertainties.

That was the best comment I saw the whole day. Potential world beaters, are we? Why not? This was an incredible tournament, held against all odds. A special mention to the BCCI and honourable secretary Jay Shah for pulling this off,” he added.
