Former England opener, Alastair Cook played his last international game against India at the Oval. However, his farewell Test ended in a win, and Cook’s hundred in the final innings only added to the joy. Meanwhile, Alastair is set to miss the Essex’s remaining games in the County Championship.

The England and Wales Cricket Board announced the same on Wednesday ( September 12). Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Adil Rashid, Jos Buttler and Chris Woakes too will miss their respective matches.

However, the likes of James Anderson, Keaton Jennings and Jos Buttler will be available to play for Lancashire Lightning in the T20 Blast Finals Day.

Anderson and Stuart Broad’s fitness will be a concern ahead of the game. All-rounder Moeen Ali will play for Worcestershire Rapids in the T20 Blast. He is likely to play the County’s last Championship game of the season versus Yorkshire, but won’t represent Worcestershire in the match against Essex next week.

Curran and Pope to feature in Championship

Apart from this, Sam Curran and Ollie Pope will play for Surrey in the remaining Championship matches against Somerset and Essex.

However, Alastair Cook was emotional at the end of the Oval Test match against India. For his 33rd Test ton, Cook was adjudged man of the match and thanked the crowd for the support.

“Most amazing week, one you couldn’t have scripted. Just been amazing, great to contribute to an England win, and win the series 4-1, and also a great game of cricket, to go into the last session of the last day with all four results possible, great advert for Test cricket. Been great moment, sad moments, when it’s been tough, test cricket shows how hard it is, turn up needing seven wickets, but it goes right to the end.” he said.

Alastair Cook also praised Anderson and said he along with Anderson and Broad had spent some glorious years together.

“I leave with great memories. Amazing, it was a selfish thing to be standing there while everyone cheering, and then to see Jimmy pass Glenn McGrath’s record was brilliant. That was the hardest bit, him and Broady are the ones I’ve played the most with, to know I’ll never stand at slip and drop another catch off them is sad. We’ve lived in each other’s pockets for 12 years.” Cook said.
