West Indian power-hitter Andre Russell happens to be one of the most destructive T20 batsmen of the modern era. Nicknamed as ‘Dre Russ’ the 32-year-old has made it a habit of hitting cricket balls out of the park with ease. Due to his exceptional abilities as an all-rounder, Russell is regarded as one of the greatest t20 players to have ever played the game.
However, according to Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Dinesh Karthik, Andre Russell is scared of many things in real life. During a chat with Delhi Capitals spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on his YouTube show ‘Hello Dubaiahh’, Karthik went on to reveal many secrets about the mighty Jamaican.
Ashwin asked Karthik, “How do you bowl to him? His miss-hit is a six with 8m clearance, decent hit 15m and a whack is out of the ground. As a captain how can an opposition bowler bowl to him?”
To this, Karthik answered that one can only pray to god that Russell is in a bad mood.
“First pray to God. Give him an offering. Pray that he’s in a bad mood, and then go for IPL. Then the day, the wicket, the conditions (matter). Just watching him walk in is scary. He comes in like a wrestler. What a build-up he gives while doing that. He’s a brilliant character. With his muscles and all, he looks like an MMA fighter,” replied Karthik.
The 35-year-old wicketkeeper further said that Russell is scared of everything; from driving cars to rollercoasters.
“But he’s scared of everything. He’s scared of driving cars, or even when the bus swerves, he gets scared. He said, he’ll never be on a rollercoaster. Never judge a book by its cover. The only thing he’s not scared of is the ball.”
Andre Russell joined the Kolkata Knight Riders in 2018 and has been monumental for the team ever since. There were reports of an alleged rift between Russell and Karthik during the IPL 2019 campaign but both of them have sorted the matter recently.
The Kolkata Knight Riders have won one out of their two matches in the ongoing IPL campaign and will take on Rajasthan Royals in the next game.
