It’s time to lift the curtains on Asia Cup 2018 again. The battle between the Asian teams set to restart in the coming months of time. Meanwhile, the defending champions, India have got quite a few problems on the side.
Their middle-order department has been the primary factor of their recent losses while fast bowling too lost a bit of mojo.
Meanwhile, with the key players regaining their form and fitness, few players might lose their place in the Indian side.
Here are three players who might get ignored to for Asia Cup 2018 –
3. Siddarth Kaul
The Punjab fast bowler who made his debut for India on the England tour might miss out on a place in the side for Asia Cup 2018. He was asked to take the role of injured Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI during ODI series against England.
Though Virat Kohli gave him the new ball, Siddarth Kaul couldn’t quite capitalise on his chances. He was smashed to all corners of the park by Englishmen during his stint for India.
However, he did well in the slog overs, but probably, it might not be well enough for him to find a place in the squad.
With Jasprit Bumrah regaining his full form and most probably, Bhuvneshwar Kumar would be back to his own, Kaul could be made to sit out of India’s squad for Asia Cup 2018.
Meanwhile, the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Deepak Chahar are making their case stronger for India with their domination of the domestic circuit.
2. Manish Pandey
The Karnataka batsman Manish Pandey is the other possible player who might get ignored for the Asia Cup 2018.
He was the regular member of the team after scoring a match-winning century in Australia a few years back. The India skipper Virat Kohli too backed him for a long time.
However, Pandey couldn’t make a count of his chances at number four. Manish Pandey probably got the maximum chances at that spot, but the repeated failures led to the ouster of his place from the team.
Though none of the batsmen showed glimpses of taking that number four role, probably, BCCI would like to test a new face in that section. They recently called Ambati Rayudu in the side to take the position, but the fitness concerns led to give him a miss.
However, all the routes are looking bleak for Manish Pandey at present. The only way he can get back to the team will be after the Asia Cup 2018 when he shows his calibre by performing in the Ranji Trophy.
1. Suresh Raina
Sadly, the stylish southpaw, Suresh Raina might find it difficult to make his way to the Indian team for Asia Cup 2018.
After a fine time, he got a chance to represent India again in ODI’s, but probably, he might get axed yet.
Suresh Raina got a lucky chance when he was asked to join the team after Ambati Rayudu failed the yo-yo test.
But, he failed to capitalise on the golden chance that came his way. Raina also got a chance to guide India to the victory, but unfortunately, he couldn’t do so.
Meanwhile, his Chennai Super Kings’ mates Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav are eagerly waiting to replace. Probably, one of them might get a nod for the upcoming Asia Cup 2018.
Kedar Jadhav would be his like-to-like replacement, as they both can offer those quick part-time overs. The right-handed batsman was a regular of the team, but the wrist injury followed by hamstring ruled him out of the team.
However, in all likelihood, Suresh Raina might give it a miss to Asia Cup 2018 unless he is in the scheme of things for Indian selectors for the 2019 World Cup.
