Mashrafe Mortaza seemed understandably delighted after Bangladesh started their Asia Cup 2018 campaign with a 137-run win over Sri Lanka in Dubai.

Meanwhile, the star of their success was Mushfiqur Rahim, who dug in to score a 150-ball 144 after Bangladesh won the toss and decided to bat. It was a huge innings, as he kept the Bangladesh innings together after Tamim Iqbal retired hurt and wickets started tumbling at the other end.

Mohammad Mithun hit a 68-ball63 too, and Bangladesh ended with 261 as a result, before bowling Sri Lanka out for 124. As a result, Mashrafe Mortaza credited the win to the pocket-sized dynamo Mushfiqur. Mithun and Rahim added 133 runs for the third-wicket which shaped the fate of the game.

I should thank Mushfiq and Mithun. They batted really well and also Tamim came out to bat under real pressure. It was good to see Mushfiq get a big score. People should remember him (Tamim). The way our seniors are performing, I think it’s time for our juniors to step up now,” Mortaza said after the game.

However, Mashrafe Mortaza cited that they need to look into a few areas before the next game. Notably, he wanted his batsmen to put a more improved show in the next match against Afghanistan.

There’s a lot of things we can improve. Hopefully, we can look after our batting in the coming games. We have to improve a little bit in our bowling as well,” the skipper added.

Thanks to the fans for coming out in numbers and supporting us throughout. We really need your support for the rest of the tournament. Good thing that we didn’t field first, but somewhere in the tournament we have to be prepared for that,” he concluded.
