The Australian shores last witnessed professional cricket back in March when they hosted their neighbours New Zealand in a One-day international. The match took place at the Sydney Cricket Ground behind closed doors due to the Coronavirus pandemic hovering. However, right after the first of the three games, which Australia won, the series was suspended amid fears of players succumbing to the virus.

Darwin and District T20 edition in Australia:
Ever since the players have been restricted to the indoors without any sport. But fans have received a glimmer of hope as a grade T20 tournament might get underway in the upcoming month. The Darwin & District T20 edition is slated to commence on the 6th of June followed by a One-day competition, a week later than that. The final would take place on the 19th of September.
Yet, a lot of clearances have to be in place before the tournament starts. Furthermore, it is not even confirmed whether the fixtures would take place within empty stadiums or the fans would get to witness live action from the stadium seats.
In March, alongside the Australia-New Zealand series, Cricket Australia also postponed their Sheffield Shield competition. New South Wales were crowned winners of the affair. The Australian Cricket Board is also one of the worst-affected due to the ongoing health crisis as it has laid out a lot of their staff. The board is hoping to leave no stone unturned in hosting India for the four-Test series later this year to prevent a loss of $300 million.
Vincy Premier League to begin from next week:
In another part of the world, Vincy Premier League, a T10 competition, would commence from the 22nd of May and continue till the 31st. International stars like Kesrick Williams, Sunil Ambris, and Obed McCoy would take part in that tournament. It would be the first instance of professional cricket to take place since March, ensuring fans’ availability to watch it from the stadium live.
