The novel coronavirus pandemic has forced matches to be held behind closed doors. It instantly gives a feel that the match is being played in an empty stadium.

For most players, it is a first! A lot of players from the Australia and New Zealand cricket teams were also seen fetching the ball from the stands, after the opposition player hit it over the fence.

To withstand the widespread coronavirus, the remainder of the Australia vs New Zealand series has been called off, keeping in mind the players safety.

Aaron Finch, the winning Australian captain after the first ODI said, it was quite unique to play in front of half a dozen people at the Sydney Cricket Ground. He, however, said it was great to put up a good show for the fans watching at home.

“It was unique, playing cricket in front of half a dozen people, the journos, but all in all think it was a pretty good result compared to what is happening around the world with sporting events being cancelled. It was great to get out here and put on a really good show for the fans at home,” Finch said after the victory.

“Once you get out there you have world-class bowlers running in at you your heart rate gets up as it does generally in an international game. In the field when you have got Martin Guptill who can be as brutal as anyone in the powerplay staring you down everyone felt pretty good,” added Finch.

Pat Cummins, one of the finest bowlers on the international circuit, had a different feeling about playing in front of the empty stadium. He said it was certainly weird and he felt a lot more relaxed due to the empty stands.

“It was certainly weird. Probably in some ways just felt a lot more relaxed than an international game normally,” Cummins told reporters after play. “(It was) more like a Sheffield Shield game or even a grade game which was kind of nice.”
