Australia to Host World T20 Tournament in 2020

The next edition of the World T20 will be held in Australia. The seventh edition of the tournament will be played Down Under in October and November 2020.

The forthcoming tournament will be the first one to be held in Australia who have co-hosted two 50-over World Cups so far.

The first edition of the tournament was held in South Africa in 2007. India we’re the inaugural champions after beating Pakistan in the title-decider.

The following edition was held in 2009 in England and was won by the previous runner-up, Pakistan, who defeated Sri Lanka. The third tournament was held in 2010, hosted by West Indies. England beta their bitter-rivals Australia in the final to win their first and only title till date.

The fourth tournament was held in Asia for the first time, with all matches played in Sri Lanka. The West Indies won the tournament by defeating the hosts in the final. The fifth tournament was hosted by Bangladesh and was won by Sri Lanka, who became the first team to play in three finals.

The sixth and the last edition was held in India in 2016 which was won by the West Indies again. They became the only team to win the title twice.

The seventh edition of the tournament was initially scheduled to be held in 2018, with South Africa being the possible host. But at the conclusion of the 2017 Champions Trophy, the ICC announced the next edition of the World T20 would take place in 2020 in Australia.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will unveil the venues for the upcoming edition on Tuesday (January 30) in Melbourne.

Recently, the ICC had also announced the venues for the Women’s World T20 which will be held in West Indies this year, and it will be the first time the women’s tournament will be not held alongside men’s.
