Australia vs India 2018-19: Rishabh Pant Is Another Adam Gilchrist – Ricky Ponting

Former Australia skipper Ricky Ponting has hailed young Indian National Cricket team player Rishabh Pant saying that he is another Adam Gilchrist following his blistering knock of 159 runs on day two of the fourth Test.

Meanwhile, Pant shared a 204-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja as India declared at 622 runs for the loss of seven wickets. The southpaw failed to convert the starts he got in the last three matches Down Under; however, he came good in the last Test of the series. In addition to, he broke an array of records on his way to scoring a massive hundred.

He became the only Indian wicket-keeper to score two overseas century and the first to score in Australia. He also overtook MS Dhoni’s 13-year-old record of highest Test runs by an Indian wicket-keeper. Previously, Dhoni held the record when he scored 148 runs against Pakistan in 2006.

Following his superb innings, Ricky Ponting shared high praise on Rishabh Pant saying that he is a good striker of the ball. He also added that he is lucky enough to have him in his side in the Indian Premier League.

“He (Rishabh Pant) is a real talent and an incredibly good ball striker. He has got a really good game sense as well. I have been lucky enough to coach him at Delhi (Capitals). He has already scored his second Test ton and a couple of the 90s to go with it. Look he is someone who could play a lot of Test cricket for India across formats. Pant is only 21 and is already into his ninth Test,” Ponting told cricket.com.au.

Pant needs to do a bit on his keeping

In addition to, Ricky Ponting added that the young cricketer from Delhi needs to work a bit on his keeping. However, he was sure about Rishabh Pant scoring more Test hundreds for India.

“He has got to do a bit of work on his keeping and he will also become a better batsman. We talk about MS Dhoni all the time and his impact on Indian cricket. He played a lot of Tests for India but made only six Test hundreds. This kid will make a lot more Test hundreds than that. We talk about him in the commentary box and he is sort of like another Adam Gilchrist,” he concluded.
