India’s former skipper MS Dhoni got a standing ovation from the crowd after he finished off the second match at Adelaide Oval against Australia. Dhoni, who was criticised for his snail’s pace innings in the first ODI was at his best in the second match. The Talisman batsman was able to rotate the strike at regular intervals, which has been his Achilles Heels in the recent past.

The former skipper was able to hit the ground running from the get-go. This was Dhoni’s 69th fifty in the 50-overs format and he batted at the top of his game. India had lost the wicket of Ambati Rayudu and a partnership was the need of the hour.

Dhoni was at his best.

Virat Kohli was batting like Virat Kohli and the current and former skipper were able to pick up singles and doubles at regular intervals. Kohli also took some chances as he knew that Dhoni needed his time to settle into the crease.

It was a must-win match for the visitors and Dhoni coming into the form is a positive sign for the Men in Blue before the ICC World Cup. The wicketkeeper-batsman has always a successful finisher for the Indian team and he was once again able to prove his mettle.

In fact, Dhoni has an average of 99.85 in successful run-chases for the Indian team. This is a stunning average keeping in mind he has batted at the number six for the most part of his career. Furthermore, it goes to show that Dhoni has remained unbeaten on numerous occasions and has finished off the match for India.

It was a fine comeback from the Indian team after losing the first match at Sydney. The decider of the three-match series will take place at Melbourne Cricket Ground on January 18.
