Bangladesh U-19 Captain Akbar Ali To Auction World Cup Memorabilia For Noble Cause

Bangladesh U-19 captain Akbar Ali will auction his World Cup winning memorabilia to support people affected due to the novel coronavirus pandemic in his country. The Bangladesh colts beat India in the final to lift their maiden U-19 World Cup trophy. The Akbar Ali-led side beat India by three wickets in a rain curtailed match to stamp their authority on the junior marquee tournament.

Akbar Ali was unbeaten of 43 runs off 77 deliveries to help Bangladesh chase down the target. He has also displayed neat glovework behind the stumps in the entire tournament. He was also adjudged the man-of-the-match in the final for playing a role of sheet anchor to help Bangladesh U-19 sail over the line.

Akbar Ali took to Facebook to let his thoughts known about the noble cause. He asserted that, he will be auctioning his final match jersey and gloves to support the affected people in his country. He, however, did not specify if the memorabilia will be signed by him before going under the hammer.

Earlier, this month, reports said that Bangladesh U-19 team have donated taka 2.5 lakh for the people who are affected due to the pandemic. Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) said in a press release yesterday, “The cricketers in the under-19 squad have paid Tk 2.5 lakh in the funds of the CWAB for the coronavirus sufferers.”

“In that context, all the players and officials of the World Cup-winning Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team, after the first-class cricketers contracted in the country, have collectively decided to give Taka 2.5 lakh to the CWAB fund.”

CWAB, in response wrote, “The responsibilities of the under-19 cricketers in this country during this time of misery are very commendable. We, as an organization of cricketers, highly respect this decision. CWAB believes that it is possible to tackle the disaster with the concerted efforts of all.”
