Best ODI XI Of The Year 2019: 2019 has produced some scintillating matches throughout the year to keep the audiences tight-seated on their chair till the last ball. On top of that, the ICC World Cup 2019 in England proved to be the perfect dish for the fans to celebrate the festival. The cricketers all across the globe took their game to the peak to perform for their respective teams and entertained the fans.

From Rohit Sharma hitting five centuries in the World Cup to Shakib Al Hasan registering a double of 600 runs and ten wickets in the competition; the cricketing world has witnessed many firsts. The swashbuckling opener from India, Rohit Sharma has had a phenomenal year with the bat. From scoring five centuries in the ICC World Cup in England to leading India’s batting from the front consistently throughout the year, this is one of the best years of Rohit’s international career.

He has accumulated 1490 runs from 28 ODIs at an average of 57.30 including seven centuries and six fifties which is also the highest among batters in 2019. Rohit has scored runs all across the globe and finished the year at the No 2 spot in the ICC ODI Rankings for batsmen. He also ended on a good note helping India win the series over West Indies in the recently concluded series.

Rohit Sharma thanked the fans and family members for their immense supports and longed for another great year in 2020. With his eye-catching performances in 2019, Rohit will easily make into the best ODI XI of the year.

Jason Roy has been one of the vital cogs in England’s dominance in ODI cricket in the last few years which culminated in their maiden World Cup triumph earlier this year. The right-handed batsman has led the batting from the front, providing them with blistering starts consistently.

The cricketer from Surrey has amassed 845 runs from 14 games at a staggering average of over 70. Roy’s ability to demolish any bowling attack in a blink of an eye makes him an exceptional talent. The 29-year-old will hope to keep up his special form with the bat in the next year, and England look to do a double winning the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia.

Virat Kohli

The Team India skipper has been arguably the most consistent player in the last decade. Virat Kohli has led the Indian team from the front scoring tons of runs for side helping India dominate world cricket for long. He has made batting look so easy breaking almost every record possible on his way.

Although Kohli will regret not taking India to the ICC World Cup title, but he has had an eventful year with the bat on the personal front. Kohli has scored 1377 runs from 26 games at ana average of 59.86 including five centuries and seven half-centuries. This is the second-highest run scored by a batsman in the calendar year after Rohit Sharma.

Kohli will hope to replicate his form with the bat as India look to win the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia next year. The Indian skipper said that it has been an excellent year for him and the Indian team apart from the 30 minutes in the World Cup semifinal.

“Apart from the 30 minutes [in the semifinal] in the World Cup, it’s been a great year. We’ll keep chasing that ICC trophy, this group deserves it for the amount of hard work we have put in. We have a vision in place,” Kohli had said. 

Shai Hope

The young batsman from West Indies, Shai Hope is touted as the brightest talent coming out of the country. During a time when the country is going through a transition period, Hope has been a consistent performer for his side scoring runs at the top order.

Hope has 1345 runs to his name from 28 matches at an average of just above 60. This also included four hundreds and eight half-centuries with the highest score of 170. As a result, the batsman from the Caribbean Islands sits in the third place in the list of most runs scored in the calendar year 2019. West Indies management will look forward to Hope scoring more runs for his side as they look to reclaim their glorious past.

Ben Stokes

The all-rounder from England, Ben Stokes is arguably the best all-rounder of this generation. He took his game to the very best in 2019 when he helped his country lift their maiden World Cup title and followed it up with Ashes heroics which helped England end the series in a draw against Australia.

While he may not have the staggering number, but Stokes rose to brilliance when his side needed the most including the World Cup final against New Zealand. The stylish all-rounder remained unbeaten on 84 runs to take the game to the Super Over before winning it on Super Over boundary count.

It has been a perfect resurgence for Ben Stokes from that street brawl that broke out in 2017. The Englishman will only hope to get better from here and bring more laurels to England cricket.

Many few batsmen of the modern generation can match upto Jos Buttler’s brutality. The wicket-keeper-batsman, when on song, can tear apart the best bowling units of the world. He played a vital role in the middle-order for England scoring those quick runs helping his side to post massive totals.

Buttler has scored runs at a strike-rate of over 135 which is the most by a batsman who has played more than five matches in 2019. He talented cricketer has scored 667 runs from 20 games including two centuries and was one of the crucial stakeholders in England’s maiden World Cup triumph.

Shakib Al Hasan

Shakib Al Hasan has been in the business for quite some time now, but he was it his best in 2019, especially during the World Cup. Although Bangladesh didn’t fare well in the competition, Shakib made the tournament his own producing stellar performances with both bat and ball.

The brightest star to come out of Bangladesh, Shakib has recorded 746 runs from 11 games at an average of over 90 – the most by a batsman in the calendar year 2019 who has played more than five games. Shakib has registered seven fifties and two centuries to his name beside chipping in with notable performances with the ball.

While the cricketer suffered a ban by ICC for violating player’s code; Shakib Al Hasan will look to bounce back all guns blazing when the ban ends.

Kuldeep Yadav

Kuldeep Yadav has been a household name in the limited-overs cricket ever since he made his international debut. His ability to puzzle batsmen with variations make him one of the rarest commodities in world cricket. The young spinner from Uttar Pradesh hasn’t been at his personal best in 2019, yet he ended the year as the highest wicket-takers among spinners.

Kuldeep scalped 32 wickets from 23 matches at an economy rate of just over 5.30. He also has two four-wicket hauls to his name, including the best figure of 4 for 31. Kuldeep’s presence in any side provides an additional dimension to the team, and the cricketer will look only to better his game in the coming years.

Mitchell Starc

The left-arm fast bowler from Australia, Mitchell Starc, if fit will walk into any playing XI across the globe. His ability to swing the ball at the top and then come back to bowl those deadly yorkers makes him one of the best fast bowlers in the world.

Starc has been a consistent performer for Australia over the years, and he takes his game to the peak during ICC events, and this World Cup was no different. Like the 2015 World Cup, this time as well, Starc ended as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 27 wickets including two four-wicket and five-wicket hauls each.

The story of Mohammed Shami rising from the ashes to the star has been the most exciting one in Indian cricket. The cricketer from Bengal, who was marred with controversies off the field chose the best way possible to answer all the allegations brought by his wife.

Shami lost weight, regained fitness which played significant roles in him finishing as the highest wicket-taker in ODIs in the calendar year 2019. The right-arm pacer finished with 42 wickets from 21 games including two four-wicket hauls and a fifer. Shami also produced significant performances during the World Cup for India.

The Men in Blues will hope to keep up the excellent work for India in the years to follow and take Indian cricket to new heights.

Trent Boult has been a vital cog behind New Zealand’s consistent runs in world cricket across formats. The left-arm pacer was his very best in 2019 ICC World Cup as the Black Caps reached the finals of the competition for the second consecutive time before losing to host England in the final.

Boult finished the year as the second-highest wicket-taker in 2019 after Mohammed Shami with 38 wickets from 20 matches at an economy rate of 4.70. Boult’s ability to run down the top-order with the new ball makes him one of the best fast bowlers in the world, and with his consistent returns, he will easily walk into the best ODI XI of the year.
