Don’t be surprised if the USA gets the hosting right for a major ICC event between 2023 and 2031. The Big Three of Cricket – India, Australia and England –  have reportedly not showed any interest in hosting ICC tournaments in the next cycle.

The governing body of the game had given March 15 as the deadline to its full and associate members after inviting EOIs (Expression of Interests) to host ICC events for the period 2023 to 2031. But according to the Times of India, India, England and Australia have not reacted to the same.

The news outlet further claimed that the United States along with the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) are the only ones to have come forward, showing interest in hosting the T20 World Cup in the new rights cycle. The Telegraph in UK reported the same on Sunday.

“All that the ICC was trying to do was use this (inviting EOIs) as a threat to make India, England and Australia sit up. It’s clearly not working,” a leading cricket administrator, who shares the Indian cricket board’s views on matters of global cricket functioning told the news outlet.

The ICC hasn’t indicated yet if it has received any more EOIs. An email inviting such EOIs had been sent from the office of ICC CEO Manu Sawhney on February 13 this year. The ICC has also refused comments on the matter, saying they will not be commenting on matters related to members.

This development comes just months after reports suggested that the Big Three were miffed with ICC’s plans of hosting a flagship event every year. Under the proposal, which was first tabled to the ICC Board in October last year, there would be a T20 Champions Cup in 2024 and 2028 and an ODI Champions Cup in 2025 and 2029, alongside the T20 World Cups in 2026 and 2030, and the ODI World Cups in 2027 and 2031.
