Shahbaz Nadeem may not have got many opportunities to play in the Dream11 IPL 2020 but that did not deter the left-arm orthodox spinner from delivering his absolute best when it mattered for his team, SunRisers Hyderabad.

In a game that saw Sandeep Sharma take a three-wicket haul and the duo of David Warner and Wriddhiman Saha smashing unbeaten match-winning half-centuries, Shahbaz Nadeem getting the ‘Player of the Match’ just about the testified the impact that the southpaw had on the game.

Nadeem, who notched up figures of 2-19 in four overs, was instrumental in ensuring that the Mumbai Indians did not get off the hook and post a total in excess. The southpaw changed the games in a matter of few deliveries as he brought about the downfall of a dangerous-looking SuryaKumar Yadav and a potentially dangerous batsman in Krunal Pandya.

The first one to go was SuryaKumar Yadav, who in an attempt to loft a wide delivery from Shahbaz Nadeem over the cover-region, failed to connect with it, paving way for Wriddhiman Saha to affect a brilliant stumping.

Nadeem wasn’t done yet. He then proceeded to dismiss Krunal Pandya three balls later after the latter failed to connect a leg-side delivery, getting a thick leading edge that was safely gobbled by Kane Williamson. Back-to-back wickets by Shahbaz Nadeem and another scalp by Rashid Khan in the next over stemmed MI’s charge and they eventually managed 149 in 20 overs, a target that was gunned down by Warner and Saha without breaking a sweat.

Needless to say, Shahbaz Nadeem was chuffed to bits with his performance, and here is what he had to say in the presentation party-

”I have been playing like this for the last couple of years. It is important that whenever you get your chances you need to give your 100% and that’s what came out today. I have been working on the carrom ball for a couple of years and I thought it was the right time to bowl it because they have a lost of left-handers in their side,”

”The round arm delivery doesn’t bounce much, but it also depends where it pitches – if it pitches on the leather it stays low and if it pitches on the seam it bounces extra. Today I was looking to get it to skid from the leather. Contributing to the team boosts you. Everyone has been contributing and my job is to fit in. This is a very small ground but the pitches are turning slower, so as a spinner, if you pitch it in the right areas, it does work,” Shahbaz Nadeem signed off.
