Craig McMillan to Resign as New Zealand Batting Coach After World Cup

New Zealand batting coach, Craig McMillan will quit from his role after the completion of the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. The former right-handed batsman revealed the hectic International schedule is the reason for him to step down from his role. McMillan disclosed that he had a chat with his family as they have been making all the sacrifices in the last five years.

Meanwhile, Craig McMillan has done a good job while providing his inputs to the New Zealand team. The side is always known to punch above their weight and McMillan’s experience has done them a world of good.

“I spoke to the family because they are the ones that have had to make a lot of sacrifices over the last five years, just with the amount of cricket in this day and age,” McMillan said. “It just gets more and more every year. And I sort of knew within myself that it was time for a change for me.”

In fact, New Zealand was able to qualify for the World Cup final in 2015. McMillan feels privileged to work with the likes of Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor. The current New Zealand captain Kane Williamson is one of the best batsmen in the world.

Williamson heaps praise on his coach.

“To be involved in such an incredible World Cup on home soil. To see the way the country embraced the team was really special. It’s been a privilege to be able to work with the likes of Brendon McCullum, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor day-in and day-out and to see the records they’ve accomplished has been very satisfying; as has the development of younger players like Tom Latham and Henry Nicholls.”

On the other hand, Kiwis skipper Kane Williamson also heaped praise on his batting coach. Williamson said McMillan has a huge passion for the game and helped the Blackcaps in improving their game.

 “Macca has a huge passion for the game and he’s constantly trying to challenge players to get better. He has a lot of cricket knowledge. In fac, he will be certainly be missed by the group, although maybe his fielding warm-ups on those cold mornings won’t be.”

The CEO of New Zealand cricket, David White has confirmed that the new batting coach will be hired before the series against Sri Lanka in August.
