Not every country has acquired legal status of same-sex union, with India being one. However, in cricket playing countries like Australia, New Zealand, South Africa the law is in favour of same-sex marriage. In the recent past, a few women cricketers have also tied the knot with their fellow teammates. While there are a few incidents where a male cricketer has married his female counter-part representing the same nation.
Let us have a look at some such cricketers, who have tied the knot with a fellow cricketer.
Mitchell Starc-Alyssa Healy
Mitchell Starc and Alyssa Healy are a match made in heaven. The premier Australia fast bowler tied the knot with his Australian women’s team batter in April 15, 2016, making them only the third married couple who both featured in Test cricket.
Starc has also shown his fondness and support for his wife time and again. He has been seen practicing along side Healy at times while ahead of the T20 World Cup final earlier in 2020, the fast bowler snubbed a match and traveled all the way to witness his wife play.
Dane van Niekerk-Marizanne Kapp
South African women’s cricket team captain Dane van Niekerk married teammate all-rounder Marizanne Kapp on July 9, 2018. Kapp and Van Niekerk were the second women’s cricket pair to get married after New Zealand’s Amy Satterthwaite and Lea Tahuhu.
They had posted the news of their marriage on Instagram and shared pictures with a ring.
Hayley Jensen-Nicola Hancock
In a sensational announcement, New Zealand woman cricketer Hayley Jensen had married uncapped Australian Nicola Hancock in April, 2019. All-rounder Hayley Jensen has played in the Big Bash League (BBL) while Nicola Hancock represents Team Green in T20 league.
