Delhi Capitals has made some smart purchases ahead of the upcoming edition of the IPL. In the batting department, Delhi Capitals opted for the likes of Alex Carey, Shimron Hetmyer and Jason Roy while already having Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. However, Parth Jindal, the owner of the franchise, is excited at the thought of three pace bowlers bowling in tandem.
Parth Jindal remarked that the prospect of seeing Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, and Ishant Sharma is indeed mouth-watering. The franchise decided to retain Rabada and Sharma while Nortje came in place of Chris Woakes. Nortje has established himself as a regular fixture for the Proteas across formats and bowls with intensity and accuracy.
Parth Jindal remarked that when realizing Woakes will not partake in this year’s IPL; they assumed they are a bowler short. They took a glance at the fast bowlers both overseas and India in the auction pool and Anrich Nortje was the standout one.
“When we understood that Chris Woakes will not be available, we had a look at our squad and we realized that we were a fast bowler short. We looked at the fast bowlers available both within India and the auction pool. One name really stood out and it was Nortje’s name,” Parth Jindal told in a video posted on the Delhi Capitals’ official Twitter page.
Jindal added that everyone spoke highly of the pace bowler and the fact that he bowls with Rabada makes him more formidable. He stated that they have got a lethal combination of fast bowlers and could not wait for Rabada, Sharma, and Nortje to bowl together.
“Everyone spoke extremely high of Nortje. Added to that he bowls with Rabada, which makes it a lethal combination. So I think overall we got ourselves a great bowler. We are happy that he picked us and can’t wait to see him, Rabada and Ishant bowl in tandem,” he stated.
“He was a big player for us” : Delhi Capitals’ boss:
Parth Jindal further said that not having the English bowling all-rounder Chris Woakes was quite unfortunate as his wife is expecting sometime in September. Jindal said that he was an essential cog for them and a right pick, given his all-round abilities.
“It is highly unfortunate that Chris Woakes couldn’t be here with us for this IPL. Chris’ wife is due at the end of September and he doesn’t exactly know when she will be delivering. So he expressed his inability to play for the Delhi Capitals. He was a big player for us given his batting and bowling, he was the right pick for us in the auction,” Jindal added further.
