Prithvi Shaw gets his maiden call-up for the last two Tests against England.

The selectors have roped young Mumbai opener Prithvi Shaw for the last two Tests of the five-match Test series against England. He along with Hanuma Vihari will join the India team in place of Murali Vijay and Kuldeep Yadav.

Meanwhile, India fought their way back at Trent Bridge beating the host by 203 runs to make the series 2-1. While Virat Kohli starred with the bat, the fast bowlers did an excellent job too. It was a complete team effort as they bounced back from the Lord’s debacle.

The 18-year-old Prithvi Shaw, who had captained India U-19 to World Cup triumph earlier this year, is set to be rewarded for his consistent show in the first-class arena. Prithvi has scored 1418 runs in 14 first-class games with an average of 56.72 and seven centuries.

He was one of the star performers along with Hanuma Vihari and Mayank Agarwal during India A team’s recent tour of the UK. Shaw scored 188 in a first-class game against West Indies A in Beckenham and recently scored 136 against South Africa A in Bengaluru. This will be a massive learning curve for the young batsman sharing the dressing room with top-notch players.

However, Team India is unlikely to make any changes in the fourth Test keeping the winning combination intact. Most recently, former India legend Sunil Gavaskar backed young Prithvi Shaw to be in the flight to Australia.

Southampton will host the fourth Test starting from August 30 while the fifth match will start at the Oval in London from September 7.
