Root is still feeling the after-effects of the stomach problem that forced him to retire-hut twice during the final day of the fifth Test. Root returned to training today only to jog and warm-up before returning to the team hotel.

Root will not take part in the, practice against Cricket Australia XI on Thursday; however, the team management feels he is recovering well to feature in the first ODI.

He’s obviously a lot better than he was on Monday. He’s up and about so I think a few more days and his bug should have gone. He’s a huge part of our side so we’re desperate for him to be fit and well. I’m sure he will rest up and try and get his energy back,” wicketkeeper Jos Buttler said.

Seven players from the Tests squad have been included in the one-day squad building towards next winter’s ICC World Cup at home.

England has won only one tournament in Australia since 1986-87 and got knocked out from the group stages during 2015 World Cup. Buttler, who had a close look at the Ashes playing in the BBL feels his team won’t face any problem in shifting the gear.

I think that’s the cycle of life,” he added.

The 27-year-old Buttler is confident that his side will play good cricket in the white ball series.

They’ll reflect on that themselves. It’s a new opportunity. It’s a different format and for those guys to potentially free them up and enjoy the one-day aspect of cricket,” he concluded.
