The pocket-sized dynamite announced his arrival in Test cricket with a blazing knock. He smashed the English bowlers all around the park to score his maiden Test century in his third game. For the first time in the series, Pant was given the license to go after the bowlers. However, the Delhi Daredevils wicket-keeper did that in style.
With KL Rahul, Pant shared a massive partnership of 204 runs which got the visitors back into the game big time. Both the batters went after the English bowlers and brought up the partnership at more than five runs per over.
It was a wonderful display of batsmanship by the duo. However, India was in a precarious situation from the start of the day’s play.
Pant began with a special one-handed six off Moeen Ali. It was a great shot given the fact that the bottom handle came out of the grip when he executed the shot. Rahul, on the other hand, took the defensive approach. He took the singles, as Pant kept smashing the English bowlers all around the park. He gave special treatment to the spin bowling duo of Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid.
Rishabh Pant smashed a sensational 114
His innings of 114 studded with 15 fours and four hits over the fence. It was a scintillating piece of batting by the duo. Rishabh Pant reached his maiden Test century by slog-sweeping Adl Rashid for a huge six. It was a great knock by the 21-year old. He joined three other Indian batsmen who have brought up their maiden Test century with a six.
England won series 4-1
Former World Cup-winning skipper achieved the feat back in 1978/79 against the Windies at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in New Delhi. Irfan Pathan was the 2nd to accomplish the feat against Pakistan in Bangalore in 2007/08 while Harbhajan Singh was the last before Rishabh Pant who scored his maiden Test century against New Zealand back in 2010/11 with a six. The game was played in Ahmedabad.
Meanwhile, it was a special delivery from Adil Rashid which castled KL Raul. It was a peach of a delivery which pitched way outside the leg stump and disturbed the off stick.
However, Rishabh Pant also fell to Adil Rashid soon after in an attempt to smash his 5th six. After his dismissal, it was always going to be a massive task for India to save the Test match.
Eventually, the visitors were bowled out for 345, thus handing the visitors a comfortable victory by 118 runs.
