Amidst all the congratulations and concerns for the Alastair Cook’s retirement, the England former cricketer-turned-broadcaster, David Lloyd comes up with a quite strong statement. He felt that there is no reason in picking Cook for the fifth and final Oval Test in London.

The English ex-cricketer feels that there is no requirement of Cook in the dead rubber as Cook himself admitted that there is no fuel in his tank as he bids adieu to the international cricket.

However, fans aren’t happy with the statement from one of the greats of the game.

Can’t see why Alastair Cook plays at The Oval – David Lloyd

Lloyd in his congratulatory tweet termed Alastair Cook as the wonderful player of the game. He went on to say that he is a ‘rock’ for England during his times. Rightly, statistics to describe the same about opener Cook as well.

Meanwhile, in his tweet, he expressed his personal feeling that there is no need of playing Cook in the impending Test.

”A Cook has been a wonderful player for England .. a rock.  He says, “ the tank is empty” Can’t personally see why he plays at the Oval .. get the new chap in immediately,” David Lloyd tweeted.

However, from one point of view, the opinion of Lloyd looks decent. From the other end, the fans want to give their hero a lovable send-off. Rightfully, he deserves the great farewell for all the excellent service he did for England cricket over the years.
