Jaydev Unadkat, who led India’s fast bowling department in Sri Lanka landed with a hefty sum at the Indian Premier League auctions. Meanwhile, such a considerable sum left him surprised.
After an impressive stint in the last season, Rajasthan Royals roped in Unadkat for Rs 11.5 crores. Meanwhile, it made the highest paid bowler ever to feature in the Indian Premier League.
However, Unadkat returned with 24 wickets in the last season and helped Pune to reach the finals of the tournament. They lost the finals to Mumbai Indians in a nail-biter by one run.
The 26-year-old was second only to England all-rounder Ben Stokes at the auction, despite a stop-start international career so far. Since his international debut in 2010, Unadkat has played one Test, seven ODIs and 10 T20Is for India.
Meanwhile, Unadkat returned with seven wickets for the men in blues during India’s successful campaign in Sri Lanka. The left-arm pacer received applauds from former cricketers as he was economical throughout the tournament.
“He takes his cricket to the next level when he has to. He has got a few gears and I like now the changeup in his action as well,” Brett Lee told AFP. “And that’s what you need to find in T20 cricket, it’s not all about running in and bowling flat out in T20. You still need that skill set — yorkers, slow bouncers and that type of things,” he added.
Although he went for runs in the final game, Rohit Sharma backed him saying he would be a crucial part of future Indian T20 teams.
“He’s someone we can rely on going forward. He understands his bowling really well,” Rohit said.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan will bank on him in the upcoming edition and want him to replicate his performance.
