For all the Indian players who aim to play cricket, representing the national team is the greatest honour that could ever be. In order to do so, they need to have talent and commitment, but there’s one more thing that helps turn the tide in their favour, luck.
In the Indian team itself, there are various players whose life changed completely, and their careers became all the more successful after their marriage. After ‘lady-luck’ entered the lives of these players, their careers skyrocketed and fame followed suit later.
Players like Rohit Sharma, Manish Pandey have been working hard for a long time, but since their marriage, they have found success easier to come by and maybe ‘luck-lady’ has been blessing them.
Today, we will be listing down five Indian players, whose lives changed after their marriage.
1) Manish Pandey
Manish Pandey made his debut for the Indian team in the year 2015 but failed to establish a place for himself in the playing XI. He remained a bit-part player for the national team but tried hard to make the most of chances, whenever they came to him.
The explosive middle-order batsman decided to tie the knot with his girlfriend Ashrita Shetty on 2nd December 2019, and since then, ‘lady-luck’ has been smiling down on him. Since his marriage, Pandey has been a regular feature in the Indian team and has found ample playing time.
Such has been his consistency that after he remained not out for seven consecutive T20I games, social media dubbed him as India’s ‘Mr Not Out’. Therefore, it can be said that Ashrita came into the 27-year-old’s life as ‘lady-luck’ herself and changed Pandey’s life forever.
2) Krunal Pandya
Another one of Indian players whose life changed completely after his marriage, Krunal Pandya took the seven vows with his wife Pankuri Sharma on 27 December 2017 and ‘lady-luck’ has been smiling on him ever since.
Krunal had been doing well for Baroda in the domestic circuit, and on the back of his performances, Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI) decided to gamble on him, and since then, he’s gone from strength to strength.
The 28-year-old’s meteoric rise continued and he went on to make his debut for the Indian team in 2018.
Krunal has been away from the national team for some time now, but his life has definitely changed for the better, since his marriage.
3) Rohit Sharma
‘Lady-luck’ entered Rohit Sharma’s life as well, but she didn’t come in the form of his wife, rather in the form of his daughter. Having made his debut for the Indian team in 2008, Rohit was a part-timer for the national side, up until 2013, when he was given the responsibility to open.
The 32-year-old’s life has changed ever since, and he decided to get married to Ritika Sajdeh in 2015, and the couple was blessed with their baby girl Samaira in the year 2018.
Since then, Rohit’s career has skyrocketed, and the year 2019 was very successful for him.
Baby Samaira came as ‘lady-luck’ for his father, as he had the best year of his career till date in 2019.
Rohit is now vice-captain of the Indian team, was the top scorer for India at the 2019 ODI World Cup, and started the year 2020 on an equally brilliant note, before suffering a hamstring injury.
4) Mayank Agarwal
Mayank Agarwal had been playing well in the domestic circuit but since he tied the knot with his girlfriend Aashita Sood on 4th June 2018, ‘lady-luck’ changed his life, and he got the opportunity to make his debut for team India.
The 28-year-old soon joined the list of Indian players whose life changed after their marriage. He top-scored for India in Test cricket in 2019, with two double-tons, one century and three half-centuries.
Courtesy of his explosive form of 2019, Mayank got the selected for the Indian team in the limited-overs format as well.
The right-handed batsman made his debut for the national team against New Zealand in the recently concluded ODI series. It would be fair to say since his marriage, ‘lady-luck’ has been smiling on Mayank.
5) Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson made his debut for the Indian team in 2015, but after a disappointing show, he was dropped from the squad, while the 25-year-old kept hustling in the domestic circuit to find a way back to the national team. He did so eventually, courtesy of a helping hand from his ‘lady-luck’ Charulatha Samson, his wife.
The duo had been dating for a long time and got married to each other on 23 December 2018. Since then, his career has skyrocketed and the wicketkeeper-batsman finally made his way back to the national team. He would join the list of Indian players whose marriage came as a blessing and changed their fortunes completely.
While Samson has been with India for some time now, he’s found playing time hard to come by.
Perhaps a good show in the upcoming IPL season will help the 25-year-old cement his place in the Indian team.
