Flop T20I XI of 2022. The flop T20I XI of 2022 consists mostly of players who performed poorly in the T20 World Cup 2022. However, some others like Avesh Khan makes the list. Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who had a poor Asia Cup 2022 and T20 World Cup 2022 wasn’t considered in flop T20I XI of 2022 for doing well in bilateral series against England and New Zealand tri series. Kane Williamson had an average year too but did moderately well in T20 World Cup 2022.

Player of the Tournament last year in the T20 World Cup 2021 in UAE, Australian opener David Warner had a horror series this time, finding out weird ways to get out. He was dismissed for 5, 11, 3, and 25 in four innings that Australia played in the World Cup. His failures set Australia back in a big way. He played 11 T20Is in 2022 and managed 340 runs averaging 34 with 3 fifties. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

The flop XI seems to be the league of captains. West Indies captain Nicholas Pooran also failed to inspire his team. In three matches, he scored 5, 7, and 13. He was responsible in a big way for West Indies being knocked out ahead of the Super 12s.

In T20 World Cup 2022, he scored 25 runs averaging 8.33 at a strike rate of 86.21. He had also performed poorly against India (average of 16.2), New Zealand (average of 8), and against Australia ( average of 2) prior to World Cup. He managed only 582 runs in 23 T20Is averaging 29.1 with 5 fifties. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

He had decided to relinquish his position by stepping down as the skipper of the West Indies white-ball team after their poor showing at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Mitchell Marsh

Player of the Final last year in the T20 World Cup 2021, there were high hopes for Mitchell Marsh. But the Aussie all-rounder failed to deliver. In four matches, he scored 106 runs with a best of 45 and an average of 26.50. Australia needed a lot more from him.

In contrast, he had scored 185 runs in T20 World Cup 2021 in 6 T20Is, averaging 61.67, with 2 fifties but couldn’t score a fifty in this edition of WC. His strike rate was also low than the previous WC. In 2022, he scored 201 runs averaging 22.33 in 10 T20Is. In 2021, he scored 627 runs in 21 T20Is averaging 36.88. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

Charith Asalanka

Sri Lanka’s Charith Asalanka, of whom much was expected, could not deliver the goods. He had the highest score of 38 not out in seven innings in the T20 World Cup 2022. He kept getting out after getting started.

He managed only 131 runs in 7 matches in T20 WC 2022 averaging 26.2. Previously, he had a disastrous Asia Cup 2022 as well, where he scored 9 runs in 4 T20Is averaging a pathetic 2.25 at a substandard strike rate of 42.86. In 2022, he managed to score 366 runs in 22 T20Is averaging only 19.26 at a below-par strike rate of 109.58. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

Ravichandran Ashwin, the Indian off-spinner claimed six wickets in six matches, but most of those wickets were against weak sides. He struggled against South Africa (1/43) and in the semi-final against England (0/27). He had picked only 11 scalps in 14 T20Is averaging 34 and had a poor economy rate of 7.33. In T20 World Cup 2022, he picked 6 scalps in as many games averaging 25.83 at a steep economy of 8.16.  He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

Mohammad Nabi

Mohammad Nabi stepped down from the Afghanistan white ball captaincy after his team’s ouster in the 2022 T20 World Cup, blaming frustrations with the management and the selection committee for the decision.

The all-rounder did not have the best outing in the T20 WC 2022 tournament either, managing a high score of 13 in 3 T20Is and only picking up one wicket averaging 46. In 3 T20Is, he scored 17 runs only averaging 5.67 at a strike rate of 113.33. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

He had a pathetic 2022, managing 163 runs in 18 T20Is averaging 11.64 at a poor strike rate of 115.6. He picked only 11 wickets in 2022 at an average of 30.36 and an economy rate of 7.77.

Australian pacer Pat Cummins also find a place in the flop XI. Pat Cummins claimed three wickets in four matches and went for plenty.

The new Test skipper averaged 44 in T20 World Cup 2022 and had a poor economy rate of 8.25 in the T20 World Cup 2022, where he conceded 132 runs in 4 T20Is picking 3 scalps. He had a poor year in 2022, where he picked 13 scalps in as many games averaging 31.54 and a steep economy rate of 8.37 -his worst in a year. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

Kagiso Rabada

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada managed only two scalps in five games in T20 WC 2022 averaging 75.5 and economy of 9.44 and was a massive disappointment for the team. In 2022, the Proteas pacer had picked only 7 scalps in 14 games at a dismal average of 57.

His poor performance in T20 World Cup 2022 resulted in South Africa’s early exit.  He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.

Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan debuted this year in T20Is but could pick 13 scalps only in 15 T20Is averaging 32.46 at a steep economy rate of 9.11. He conceded over 10 runs per over in series against West Indies, Ireland, and England before having a pathetic Asia Cup 2022, where he conceded over 12 runs per over even against minnows Hong Kong, having figures of 1/53 in 4 overs. He wasn’t considered for a place in the Indian squad after the Asia Cup. He deserves a place in the flop T20I XI of 2022.
