The champion of the Indian National Cricket Team Gautam Gambhir, who got two ICC World Cup Medals in his kitty, asked all the Indian girls — to take the world cup final as the victory. He strongly feels that reaching final in the T20 world cup is a massive achievement by the Indian Women Cricket Team.

On a day which was pipped as a rare opportunity to clinch the holy grail, the Women in Blue once again finished in one of those ‘so close yet so far’ territory with the dominant Aussies handing them an 85-run shellacking in what turned out to be the one-sided finale in front of a record 86,174 fans.

Emotions ran high, not only on the field but on social media as well with fans taking to micro-blogging platform Twitter — to express their emotions following India’s crushing defeat in the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final against Australia.

While some were proud of the Indian players to have played with all their hearts, others congratulated the Aussies for their dominating show in the summit clash.

Gambhir took to Twitter to write:

“Till a few years ago, nobody could have imagined that a billion eyes would be glued to Women’s Cricket World Cup. Cups will come & go, but today is a victory for each & every INDIAN GIRL who dared to defy odds & societal barriers! #SheInspiresUs Congrats to Australia!”

India was pegged back early when Aussie openers in Alyssa Healy and Beth Mooney came out all guns blazing with the bat. That India was feeling the pressure of expectations a lot more than the Aussies, was quite evident from the very first over when Deepti Sharma dished out full-toss, which Healy took a full toll.

Both Healy and Mooney got reprieves early-on in their innings and the duo made full use of the opportunity to bat India out of the game with a whirlwind 115-run-stand for the first wicket.

India eventually pegged the Aussies back, restricting them to 4-184 when at the stage they looked well on course to rack up a total in excess of 200.

The dream eventually ended with India getting bowled out for 99 in 19.1 overs.
