Last time when South Africa toured India, it was a nightmare of series for them. None of their batsmen stood firm in the middle for the team, as a result, most of the matches ended in less number of days. However, the young Aiden Markram believes this time it would be a different scenario.

South Africa opener Aiden Markram admitted that touring any country in the Indian sub-continent is not that easy as teams must overcome several external factors other than the playing conditions, acclimatisation to hot weather is one of them. Markram, however, insisted that their players can hope for a rewarding outcome if they can conquer the challenges at hand.

I think it’s never an easy tour – Aiden Markram

Aiden Markram recollected the 3-0 defeat that South Africa suffered in 2015, which was also their first overseas series loss since 2006. The visiting South African team struggled on rank turners as they managed to make a 200-plus total only once in 8 innings. Their struggles against spin were shown when they were bundled out for 79 on a rank-turner in Nagpur in the 2nd Test.

“I remember watching that series a few years ago and it looked incredibly difficult. And I’m sure there’s a bit of baggage that certain players that were on that tour might still be carrying but that’s completely fine,” Aiden Markram said. I think it’s never an easy tour coming to anywhere in the subcontinent, let alone India.”

”It’s full of challenges, but if we can conquer those challenges it will be really rewarding. The guys are positive and upbeat and we’re maintaining a really good language in the changeroom, a really strong language. At the end of the day, we’re not going to harp on about conditions, we pretty much know what to expect and we just need to get the job done,” Aiden Makram said.

The 24-year-old Markram prepared for the Tests with a fine 161 for the ‘A’ side in its second four-day game against India A in Mysore. The first of the three Tests starts on October 2 in Visakhapatnam, with the second slated for Pune (October 10-14) and the final Test in Ranchi (October 19-23).
