Ravichandran Ashwin, on Friday, starred with the ball as Delhi Capitals thrashed Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs in Sharjah to continue their winning run. The win was Delhi Capitals’ fifth win in just six matches as they moved to the top of the points table and took another step towards sealing the playoff spot.
At a venue where all the previous innings had yielded 200 or more runs, Delhi Capitals ended on 184 for 8 after being asked to bat first. Shimron Hetmyer top-scored with a 24-ball 45 runs knock while Marcus Stoinis scored 39. For Royals, Jofra Archer picked three for 24 off his four overs.
Royals had previously chased down two 200-plus totals at the same venue and must have fancied their chances against Delhi Capitals. However, they failed miserably with the bat again and were all out just 138 with Rahul Tewatia’s 38 being the top-score.
One of the top-performers for Delhi Capitals was Ravichandran Ashwin. The spinner finished the game with impressive figures of 2 for 22 off four overs. He dismissed the dangerous Jos Buttler in his very first over before accounting for Mahipal Lomror.
Harbhajan Singh praises Ashwin:
Following the game, Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to praise Ashwin. The veteran spinner, who has skipped the ongoing IPL due to personal reasons, was all praise for his fellow-spinner’s performance ‘on the smallest ground and on this flattest pitch, tweeting:
“Today my man of the match @ashwinravi99 what a spell.. specially in Sharjah on the smallest ground and on this flattest pitch.. well done

Earlier this year, Harbhajan Singh had clarified that there were no differences between him and Ashwin. There were rumours that the senior spinner did not have a good rapport with Ashwin after being replaced as the spin spearhead in the Indian team.
“A lot of people would say that there is a lot of jealousy between us. But I would want to call out to those detractors and say there is nothing like that,” he had said in May this year.
