Veteran India spinner Harbhajan Singh posted a strongly worded tweet after Croatia’s heroics in the recently-concluded 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Despite being one of the underdogs, Croatia punched above their weight in the coveted football competition. They defeated the likes of Argentina and England to qualify for their first-ever World Cup final.

And although their fairytale run came to a heartbreaking end with a 4-2 loss in the grand final against France, the world is going gaga following a remarkable show from the Croats.

Interestingly, Harbhajan used the opportunity to deliver an eye-opening message for his countrymen.

The discarded off-spinner urged countrymen in which few are busy in creating a rift between Hindu and Muslim communities. He has categorically urged them to learn from Croatia, a country with way less population that than of India.

Taking to microblogging site Twitter, Harbhajan tweeted:

“While Croatia, which has a population of just around 50 lakh, is playing the FIFA World Cup final, while we in India, with a population of 135 crore, are playing “Hindu Muslim”.

The Punjab-based spinner also used a hashtag ‘soch badlo desh badlega (change your thinking, the country will change)’ to back his point.

Talking about Harbhajan’s career, he is one of the finest spinners to have played for India. He marked his arrival at the highest stage by blowing away the all-conquering Australia in the 2001 Test series.

In just three games, he picked up 32 wickets, including the first Test hat-trick by an Indian.

So far, the off-spinner has represented India in 103 Tests, 236 One-day Internationals, and 28 Twenty20 Internationals.

In Tests, he picked up a staggering 417 wickets in addition to scoring two tons and nine fifties. In ODIs and T20Is, he picked up 269 and 25 wickets, respectively. His last appearance for India came in the 2016 Asia Cup against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Earlier this year, Harbhajan Singh won the Indian Premier League title (IPL) with Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

An avid cricket lover, I just love this game more than anything. Writing about cricket keeps me closer to the game.
