It is not only his exploits on the cricket field but also his nature that has made Virat Kohli arguably the most adored and popular cricket star in the world. Currently the top-ranked batsman in ODIs and Tests, the India skipper wears his hearts on sleeves but is known for his humility otherwise. While Kohli has made many of his opponents angry with his aggressive nature on the field, he is still being lauded by many for being a different character altogether off the field.

Well, the India star gave an example of it during the ongoing match against Australia in the World Cup. It all started when Steve Smith went to field near the boundary and the fans started booing him. Fans have been harsh on Smith and David Warner in the World Cup because of last year’s ball-tampering scandal. The Indian fans also made sure to give Smith a hard time. However, Kohli intervened in time and asked them not only to stop but also clap for the Australia star.

Talking about the game, India have posted a mammoth total of 352 for 5 in the allotted 50 overs. Shikhar Dhawan starred with the bat by scoring a century while Kohli scored 82.

Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma started cautiously before shifting gears. The two added 127 runs for the first wicket before Nathan Coulter-Nile dismissed Rohit to give Australia the much-needed breakthrough. Dhawan, Kohli, Hardik Pandya, MS Dhoni and KL Rahul then made sure to guide India to a mammoth total.
