ICC Cricket World Cup 2019: Top Ten Oldest Cricketers To Play In Upcoming World Cup

The 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup is less than two weeks away to begin. European countries England and Wales are ready to host the upcoming Cricket World Cup (CWC) which is the 12th edition of CWC. The forthcoming edition will run from 30th May to 14th July. A total of top ten teams will participate in this tournament.

Around 150 players are getting ready for the upcoming CWC. While some of them are youngsters, some of them are also old experienced players who will have to play significant roles for their respective teams.

Here we are briefly discussing the top ten oldest players in the upcoming CWC.

10. Lasith Malinga (Sri Lanka) – Age: 35

Sri Lankan right-arm pacer Lasith Malinga will be one of the oldest players in the upcoming Cricket World Cup. Malinga, who has already experienced three CWCs (2007, 2011 and 2015), will begin his forthcoming World Cup journey at the age of 35 years. In his 22 CWC matches, Malinga has taken 43 wickets.

9. Shaun Marsh (Australia) – Age 35

Australian cricketer Shaun Marsh hasn’t experienced a Cricket World Cup yet. At the age of 35-year-old, the left-handed batsman Shaun Marsh will play his first ever CWC.

8. Dale Steyn (South Africa) – Age: 35

South African pace bowler Dale Steyn has already featured in two editions of the Cricket World Cup (2011 and 2015). The 35-year-old is now ready to play his third edition of the CWC. The right-arm pacer has bagged 23 wickets in 14 CWC matches.

 

7. Hashim Amla (South Africa) – Age: 36

Another South African cricketer Hashim Amla will feature in the upcoming Cricket World Cup at the age of 36-year-old. The Proteas cricketer has already experienced two CWCs (2011 and 2015). The right-handed opening batsman has played 15 CWC matches where he has scored 639 runs with an average of 42.60.

6. Jeevan Mendis (Sri Lanka) – Age: 36

The 36-year-old Jeevan Mendis will feature in his second Cricket World Cup in the forthcoming edition. Earlier, the Sri Lankan cricketer featured in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup where he played two matches. In that tournament, Mendis scored 13 runs and also picked up two wickets.

 

5. Shoaib Malik (Pakistan) – Age: 37

One of the experienced Pakistan cricketers Shoaib Malik has featured only one CWC, and that was in 2007. In that tournament, Malik played three matches where he scored 92 runs (average 30.66) and also took one wicket. At the age of 37-year-old, Malik will play his second CWC in the upcoming edition.

4. MS Dhoni (India) – Age: 37

Former Indian captain MS Dhoni has already experienced three Cricket World Cups (2007, 2011 and 2015). Under his captaincy, India won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup. In his 20 CWC matches, Dhoni has scored 507 runs with an average of 42.25. At the age of 37-year-old, Dhoni will play the 2019 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

 

3. Mohammad Hafeez (Pakistan) – Age: 38

The 38-year-old Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Hafeez will play his third Cricket World Cup in the upcoming edition. Earlier, he represented Pakistan in 2007 and 2011 CWCs. Hafeez has scored 230 runs (average 25.55) and also took 11 wickets (average 22.45) in ten CWC matches.

2. Chris Gayle (Windies) – Age: 39

Windies star Chris Gayle will feature in the upcoming Cricket World Cup as the second oldest player. The 39-year-old has already played four CWCs (2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015) where he has scored 944 runs in 26 matches with an average of 37.76. Gayle was the first batsman in CWC history to score a double-century (215 against Zimbabwe at Canberra on 24 February 2015).

 

1. Imran Tahir (South Africa) – Age: 40

South African leg-spinner Imran Tahir is ready to play the upcoming Cricket World Cup as the oldest player. He will be the only 40+ age player to feature in the forthcoming CWC. Before this new CWC, Tahir played in 2011 and 2015 CWCs. After playing 13 matches in the CWC history, Tahir has taken 29 wickets.
