England’s recent batting exploits against Australia in the ongoing ODI series has very much made it clear that they have the most explosive batting lineup in the world at the moment.

In four games so far, they have scored 300-plus total on three occasions. The only time they missed out was in the first game when they were chasing 215.

In the third ODI, they scored a staggering 481 for six – the highest-ever total in the ODI history. Centuries from Jonny Bairstow and Alex Hales, plus a 21-ball half-century from Eoin Morgan helped England eclipse the 444 for three they made against Pakistan two years ago. Overall, England thrashed 41 fours and 21 sixes during their innings.

Bairstow smashed 139 – his fourth ODI century in six games – while Hales hit 147. Bairstow’s knock came off just 92 balls and contained 15 fours and five sixes.

On the other hand, Hales hit 16 fours and five sixes during his 147-run knock. The Australians then failed to deliver with the bat. On a good batting pitch, they were all out for 239 in 37 overs.

In the fourth game on Thursday, they once again showed their might by chasing down 311 with 32 balls remaining.

Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow came out all guns blazing in the second innings. The duo added 174-run for the first wicket to set the tone for the chase. Nathan Lyon broke the stand when he sent back Roy for 101.

Nine runs later, Bairstow departed too after scoring 79, but England’s middle-order did not fumble and scored the remaining runs with ease. Jos Buttler starred with the bat towards the end, scoring an unbeaten 54 off 29 balls.

And following the impressive win, ICC’s official Twitter posted a question is perhaps doing the rounds in every cricket fan’s mind.

“England gun down their second-highest ODI chase thanks to another ton from Jason Roy. Can anything stop this England side?,” the ICC tweeted.

And well, the Scotland players had the perfect answer to it. Scotland had defeated England by six runs early this month and used the ICC’s tweet as an opportunity to take a dig at the current world number one ODI side.

Mark Watt, who had taken three for 55 in that game, posted a screenshot of a commentary text from that game with emojis depicting Scotland had defeated England.

George Munsey, who had scored 55 in that game, went on to state how many days ago Scotland had got the better of England, tweeting,

??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️??‍♂️ less than 12 days ago!!!!
