There is something about Shikhar Dhawan and the big ICC events. Dhawan has an outstanding record in the World Cup and he was once again at his best in the second match against Australia. The southpaw batsman was able to hit the ground running. The left-hander scored his 17th ODI hundred and third in World Cup.

Indian captain Virat Kohli won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia at Kennington Oval, London. The Men in Blue had a fine start as Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma posted a fine alliance of 127 runs. Rohit Sharma continued from where he left against South Africa and scored a fine fifty.

Dhawan was at his best.

In fact, Rohit Sharma took his time in the initial phase of his innings and then changed gear. The stylish batsman scored 57 runs from 70 balls with the help of three fours and one six. However, the right-hander innings was put paid when Nathan Coulter-Nile extracted extra bounce from the surface to take the right-hander’s edge to Alex Carey.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli struggled to find his touch in the initial phase of the innings. However, the talisman was soon at his best when he got a boundary against Nathan Coulter-Nile. The Indian captain converted the ones into twos and was at his best.

On the other hand, Shikhar Dhawan was able to roar back into form in style. The southpaw batsman was the more aggressive than Rohit Sharma and dictated terms to the Australian bowlers once he got his eye in. Dhawan punished the bad balls from the Australian bowlers and completed his hundred with a single against Marcus Stoinis.

The southpaw batsman has thus far scored 13 fours in his blistering knock of hundred. Thus the left-hander will like to continue the same form.

Here is how Twitter praised Shikhar Dhawan’s hundred:
