As per a report from ANI, Pakistan have threatened to boycott the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, which is scheduled to be held in India later this year, if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) does not allow the Indian team to participate in the Asia Cup 2023. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants their World Cup matches to be held in either Sri Lanka or Bangladesh, rather than in India.

The ICC is yet to release a detailed schedule for the World Cup. Recently, it was reported that India would play their Asia Cup all matches at a neutral venue and would not travel to Pakistan. If India make it to the final against Pakistan, it would also be played at a neutral venue.

Recently, ESPNCricinfo reported that the Pakistan cricket team may consider playing their ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 matches in Bangladesh instead of India, the original hosts of the tournament. Talks are underway to explore the possibility of shifting the matches to a neutral venue, with Bangladesh being proposed as an option due to its close proximity to India. In addition, a hybrid model for this year’s Asia Cup is being considered as a potential solution. Although Pakistan are the original hosts of the Asia Cup, India are expected to play their matches at a neutral venue.

Discussions about India’s participation in the upcoming Asia Cup and Pakistan’s involvement in the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup took place during recent board meetings in Dubai. Although shifting the World Cup matches to a neutral venue was suggested as an option, no formal talks have been held on the matter.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has expressed concern that India’s absence from the Asia Cup could impact the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to be hosted by Pakistan. The six-nation Asia Cup, which will take place in September 2022, features India and Pakistan in the same group, along with a qualifying team. Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in the other group.

Last year, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairperson Jay Shah announced that the Asia Cup would be played at a neutral venue due to security concerns, and a decision on the venue will be taken during the ACC Executive Board’s next meeting. The PCB had previously threatened to withdraw from the competition if it was taken out of Pakistan.
