Dynamic Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell is confident that he will return to form in the upcoming series against India. Maxwell is part of the limited-overs side which will take on the visitors in less than a week.

The right-hander is coming off a torrid IPL as a batsman. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, Maxwell could manage only 108 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 101. The fact that he couldn’t hit a single six is absolutely shocking. However, before the IPL, Maxwell was in great form against England. He scored 186 runs in 3 ODIs, including a match-winning hundred in the third ODI at Old Trafford.

I can still perform really well: Glenn Maxwell

Ahead of the ODI series, Glenn Maxwell says that while he was hitting the ball fine, he couldn’t get a proper outing in the IPL. Maxwell has shifted his focus to the national team and put the IPL performances behind so that he could get ready for the challenge against India.

The 32-year-old feels that he is doing the right things and is positive that he will perform well for Australia.

As quoted by Hindustan Times, Glenn Maxwell said, “Yeah, I’m sure we’ll be fine. I was just hitting the ball fine but wasn’t getting much of a crack. And I’m just looking at the bigger picture and understanding my role within the Australian side; trying to put the IPL aside and think about what I need to do to get ready for every game,”

“And [I] just know that I’m doing the right things and that when the time comes, when I need it, I can still perform really well.”

The ‘Big Show’ reckons that his failures in the IPL were not due to the pitches. Maxwell pointed out that he couldn’t get enough time in the middle for most of the matches in the IPL; he was either rebuilding or had to smash from the first ball.

The all-rounder opined that he played one the finest knocks of his career just before the IPL, so he isn’t worried too much about the lack of runs in the T20 league.

“It didn’t have anything to do with the pitches at all. I suppose it was more to do with the amount of time I had left in the game most of the time. I was either rebuilding or trying to go from ball one with only a couple of balls left. But I came from arguably one of the best innings I’ve played in my career [at Old Trafford] to not being able to clear the ropes. I don’t take too much out of that” Maxwell added.

Australia will host India for six white-ball games and four Test matches. The 3-match ODI series commences on 27th November followed by 3 T20Is.  The high-intensity Border-Gavaskar series will begin on 17th December with a day-night Test in Adelaide followed by the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, New Year’s Test in Sydney, and the last Test match in Australia’s fortress, Brisbane.
