In a shocking disclosure, it is revealed that three Test matches involving India in the last two years were fixed. The matches under question are India-England Chennai Test match which was held in 2016. And India-Australia Ranchi Test match in 2017.

Moreover, the third match which is under the radar was played between India and Sri Lanka in Galle.

A report in Hindustan Times has claimed that match fixer Robin Morris, who is based in Mumbai tried to bribe the Galle groundsman.

A footage availed by broadcasting giant Al Jazeera had claimed that Morris had tried to convince the groundsman to alter the condition of the pitch.

This is not a good sign for the game:

Moreover, the investigative report ‘Cricket Match-Fixers’ will be aired online at 3:30 IST on Sunday.

Furthermore, three England players and two Australian players are reported to be approached by bookies.

In fact, the Aussie players have not reacted to the allegations, whereas, English players have denied any such news.

Meanwhile, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched a probe into the documentary which will be telecasted by Al Jazeera.

“The ICC is aware of an investigation into corruption in cricket by a news organisation. And as you would expect we will take the contents of the programme and any allegations it may make very seriously,” the governing body said in a statement on its website.

ICC further added that they have launched their investigation in the process. The governing body went on to add that they made requests to the channel – to provide all the evidence. Consequently, ICC will like to take sternest of the actions.

“We have already launched an investigation working with anti-corruption colleagues from Member countries based on the limited information we have received. We have made requests that all evidence and supporting materials relating to corruption in cricket to release immediately to enable us to undertake a full and comprehensive investigation,” the statement further read.

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to state that it has zero-tolerance towards corruption and will take immediate action against any person involved in the alleged incident if found guilty,” the statement added

The game’s authenticity has come under threat after these corruption charges. The fixing incidents hamper the gentleman’s game which can damage the sport in nutshell.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also shown the zero-tolerance policy owing to the fixing menace.
