The Indian team has officially embarked on their two-month long tour of Australia as the Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on Tuesday in the United Arab Emirates. India will lock horns in three ODIs, three T20Is, and four Tests that starts with the first ODI in Sydney on the 27th of November. Their visit ends on the 19th of January in 2021.

In an extended squad to meet the demands of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI did opt for some surprise selections and omissions. Initially, the selectors did not name Rohit Sharma in any of the squad due to fitness issues; however, made it to the Test squad eventually. The party includes T Natarajan, who replaced Varun Chakravarthy in the T20I squad while Shubman Gill and Mohammad Siraj have received the nod in the Test team.

The most significant news regarding the same is that regular captain Virat Kohli will return home after playing three ODIs, three T20Is, and only one Test out of the four. The BCCI has granted the 32-year old paternity leave as he expects his first child in January. The BCCI has not named the one to take over the leadership duties in the absence of Virat with Rohit and Ajinkya Rahane being the contenders.

Australia also announced their squads for all three formats. The likes of Steve Smith and David Warner might miss the limited-over games to prepare themselves for the Test series and negate the stress of bio-secure bubble. Uncapped all-rounder Cameron Green earned a call-up to both Test and ODI squads as did Moises Henriques for white-ball cricket, having last played for Australian in 2017. The hosts have to play out of their skin to beat India, who are slightly depleted and unsettled as well.
